Topic: Week 2 Questions and Discussion

Welcome to the second lesson in our third workshop. We're glad to have you join us. Feel free to ask anything about lesson two here.

Hi Sam! Thanks for this lesson, it was just what I needed today. Great explanation of "framing"! I had a lot of fun creating this little scene. Looking forward to doing more. Thanks, James
Hey James, I'm so glad you enjoyed the class! And your painting looks stellar - especially like the shading and details on the trees you added. Do you mind if I repost your art on my Instagram? Thanks - Sam
Hi all! I'm so excited to see your sketches this week. Please post your art and any questions you may have about technique, supplies or subject matter in lesson 2!

2024-08-12 15:20 HCWT Hi, Sam:) Thank you for this fun, fantastical lesson! My son, who also happens to be named Sam, and I did this together this afternoon, and we had a lovely time talking various castles (his is based on the game, Elvin Ring, and mine is more fairytale-esque) and watercolor pigments (I’m a huge art/color nerd trying always to get my child to join me in my pigment code craziness). My Sam is a professional symphonic percussionist going through treatment for stage 3 cancer, and struggling to find activities he has energy for that also are gently and healthfully distracting as he waits for the next stage of his treatment. This focused yet still open for interpretation lesson was perfect for us to do together, for us to connect over as mother and son without having to talk doctors appts, medication, or feelings (“How are you doing?” is NOT a cancer patient’s favorite question). It reminded him that he used to draw like his mom (I, too, am an artist), and he’s asked me to let him know when your next lesson is available so that we can have another ‘art therapy’ session together which really made this Monday special for me—thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this tutorial💚
Hi Sam, Thanks! Feel free to repost it on Instagram! -James
HCWT: Thanks so much for posting your art, and your thoughtful message. I’m so happy to hear this project could be a form of distraction and enjoyment for your son as he’s going through this really tough time. It’s incredible how art can both soothe the mind and focus our thoughts during life’s struggles. I hope you both enjoy the next lesson!
Hi Sam, Thanks for sharing all these great processes and options of layering, very helpful. The Strathmore mixed media tinted papers add depth when applying the inks, excellent product selections, fun and always looking for something new for my students. Looking forward to the next lessons.

Hi all, really enjoying these Lessons Sam thank! I had the most fun with Week 2 I tried it with both watercolour and again with markers. I still need to work on my values Looking forward to working on the next two lessons!
Thank you, Sam, for a delightful pen and watercolor worksop. I liked the way you present information and your pacing. I learned more about framing. I especially liked the style of composing with pen outlines, then watercolor then the details of more pen and watercolor. I loved how the river curved around the rocks and centering the castle view first. Great class!! Mollie
