2025 Workshop 3
In this workshop, we will be drawing four realistic birds in colored pencils, each from a unique habitat around the world. Each lesson will focus on mastering the various textures of feathers - soft and fluffy, sleek and glossy as well as delicate and iridescent details while also exploring different color palettes. Throughout these workshops you’ll learn essential techniques for layering, blending, and adding fine details that bring your bird drawings to life. The primary goal of this workshop is to develop your realistic drawing skills, discover the joy of drawing birds and also to inspire a deeper connection to wildlife that honors the incredible birds of our world!
In this lesson we will be visiting the woodlands of North America and Europe to draw a nuthatch. This lesson shows how we can create depth of color, and how layering colored pencil helps to create a rich vibrant finish.
In this lesson we will be heading to the icy landscapes of the South Pole, where we’ll be learning how to draw an adorable little penguin. While penguins are known for their classic black and white feathers, we’ll take a more creative approach - exploring how to use color to bring depth, warmth, and life to what might otherwise be a monochrome subject.
In this lesson, we’ll be heading to a tropical habitat, where we’ll learn how to draw a beautiful hummingbird. We’ll take a close look at a bird with patterned, uniform feathers and enjoy exploring a range of bright colours, touching briefly on how to achieve a glossy, iridescent appearance.
In this lesson, we’re heading down to a waterways habitat to draw a flamingo - focusing on how to capture vibrant, luscious colours, that soft, almost fur-like feather texture, and of course, how to draw its smooth, shiny, and beautifully curved beak.
